Congratulations to the Vietnam Air Defense Force on the successful launch of the first S-300 missile, after 20 years of importing 2 S-300 PMU-1 complexes from the Russian Federation.
It is known that this is a 48N6E missile, has a range of 150 km, a target destruction height of up to 27 km, and a cost of up to 1 million USD/shell (equivalent to 2 new Benz G63s).
According to Wikipedia, Vietnam purchased two S-300 PMU-1 systems (12 launchers) for nearly $300 million in 2003, and an RLS 96L6 after 2009. And then purchased an S-300 PMU-2 in 2012.
The S-300 is a series of initially Soviet and later Russian long-range surface-to-air missile systems produced by NPO Almaz, all based on early versions of the S-300P. The S-300 was developed for defense against aircraft and cruise missiles for the Soviet Air Defense Forces.
