Elbit Systems Shows New Variant of Sabrah Light Tank

light armor Sabrah is synonymous with the icon of the revival of the Pinoy State cavalry. Meanwhile for the manufacturer, the sale of the Sabrah to the Philippines is like an 'accomplishment' in itself, because this light tank is a new item that does not yet have a combat reputation.

And from the Twitter account @Ronkainen, it is stated that Elbit System as the manufacturer has released a new variant of the Sabrah Light Tank.

The appearance of the new Sabrah variant was shown during the visit of the Romanian Ministry of Defense delegation to the Elbit Systems headquarters in Haifa, Israel. The new Sabrah variant retains the 105 mm turret, while there is a difference in the type of protective coating on the sides of the hull.

After setting aside the Harimau medium tanks from PT Pindad and the K-21 from Doosan DST, the Philippine Ministry of Defense signed an agreement with Israel in January 2021 to supply Sabrah light tanks. As a form of realization, it is reported that in December 2021, 20 Sabrah units have been received by the Philippines.

According to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Armed Forces, Colonel Anthon Abrina, the newly received ranpur are "real tanks" when compared to the existing armored vehicles in the country, which are only equipped with low-caliber weapons (cannons). In addition to the 20 Sabrahs that arrived in December 2021, 10 more will arrive in 2023.

For Israel, the export of the Sabrah is a major step, as it is the first time Israel has exported a light tank. Sabrah itself carries the ASCOD 2 platform, which is known as a joint design between Austria and Spain, produced by General Dynamics European Land Systems.

The Sabrah is one of the light tanks of the modern generation available on the military market today. The design of the Sabrah was completely designed by Elbit Systems based on the tracked ASCOD AFV (Armored Fighting Vehicle) platform, manufactured by General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS).

Weighing 30 tonnes, the Sabrah has a modular design. The tank is equipped with a 105mm manned turret for both tracked and wheeled configurations.

The Sabrah is equipped with an armor protection system to provide ballistic protection up to STANAG 4569 Level 4 NATO. This Ranpur can be integrated with active protection systems, including the Torch-XTM battle management system.
