Ukraine Launches Shark Drone – Reconnaissance Vehicle And Fire Adjustment For HIMARS Senjata Weapon System

For Ukraine, the presence of HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) field artillery weapons is a game changer in the war against Russia. Realizing the advantages of HIMARS, it is the Ukrainian industry that remains to present solutions to improve the performance of HIMARS. As Ukrspecssystems did, this Ukrainian company released what it calls the Shark drone.

The Shark Drone, which is characterized by a red spout on its nose, is a new type of reconnaissance drone designed for reconnaissance, surveillance and fire adjustment missions.

As quoted from mezha.media (27/10/2022), the Shark drone is equipped with reliable encrypted communication technology and is specially made for conducting deep aerial reconnaissance and fire adjustment, including for Western-made long-range artillery guns and in particular for HIMARS.

The reliable communication module allows the Shark drone to fly up to 60 km behind enemy lines. Equipped with a modern camera system allows the drone to monitor objects from a distance of 5 km. The Shark drone is equipped with a 30x optical zoom camera and an additional digital zoom function.

Ukrspetssystems currently produces two types of Shark drones, namely the PD-2 operational tactical drone and the Shark tactical drone.

As a mini drone, the Shark drone is launched using a catapult and landed using a parachute. The developer claims that the Shark drone is fully ready for use in combat conditions. Shark drones are ready to penetrate into enemy-controlled territory.

From the specifications, the Shark drone has an endurance of 2 hours and an access control range of 60 km. This drone can fly up to an altitude of 2,000 meters. Physically, the Shark drone has a maximum take-off weight of 10 kg. The Shark drone has a wingspan of 1.91 meters.

Shark drones can fly up to a maximum speed of 150 km per hour, and a cruising speed of 70 - 90 km per hour. The Shark drone can technically be launched with a setup time of around 15 minutes.
