Brunei Darussalam Showcases S-70i Black Hawk Helicopter at Indo Defense 2022

Enlivening the Indo Defense 2022 event (2-5 November 2022), the Royal Brunei Darussalam Air Force (Royal Brunei Air Force) has apparently brought in two multirole transport helicopters which are also the dream of the Indonesian Army Puspenerbad, the S-70i Black Hawk. The two units of the Brunei Black Hawk are now in the South Apron of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta.

The Brunei Darussalam Air Force currently operates 12 S-70i Black Hawks. Flying directly to Jakarta, each Brunei Black Hawk is equipped with a stub wing to carry two external fuel tanks.

Similar to that used by the Philippines, the S-70i Black Hawk Brunei Darussalam is the production of PZL (Polskie Zaklady Lotnicze) Mielec, a subsidiary of Sikorsky Company (Lockheed Martin Company) located in Poland.

All orders for the S-70i are assembled in Poland, but the airframe is still made in the United States. As an illustration, 70 percent of the production process of the S-70i is made in Poland, the remaining 30 percent in the United States.

From specifications, dimensions, adoption of engine type, navigation system, choice of weapons, airframe and safety, there is no difference between the S-70i and the UH-60M (Black Hawk operated by the US Army). Both have used the glass cockpit.

Even the S-70i is considered more suitable for tropical climates, because the T700-GE701D dual engine helicopter is equipped with a special coating for anti-rust.

The Black Hawk was once expected to be acquired by the Indonesian Army's Puspenerbad, because the Black Hawk can match the capabilities of the AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter.

Despite the different roles, the Black Hawk and Apache adopt the same type of engine, so the speed and mileage factors are considered ideal to support a combat operation.
