After releasing photos last March showing the production line of the MIUS (National Unmanned Aircraft System) jet-engined combat drone. Now Baykar Makina has officially unveiled the full form of the MIUS prototype labeled “Kızılelma” (red apple), which in Turkish mythology symbolizes a distant goal, idea or dream.
Quoted from gagadget.com (30/8/2022), Kızılelma's appearance was officially shown during the Black Sea Teknofest aerospace festival (30 August – 4 September 2022) in the city of Samsun, Turkey.
The Bayraktar Kizilelma is an attack drone equipped with the Ukrainian-made AI-322F and AI-25TLT engines. However, Baykar Makina is also preparing so that later Kizilelma can use the TF-6000 engine made in Turkey.
Still from the same source said, Baykar Makina plans to produce this drone in Ukraine along with other attack drones (Bayraktar TB2 and Akinci). Baykar Makina in November 2021 signed a contract with Ivchenko-Progress, one of the leading Ukrainian companies for the procurement of engines for MIUS. Ivchenko-Progress is projected to supply the AI-322F Turbofan engine.
From the specifications, the Bayraktar Kizilelma can carry a payload of 1.5 tons, while the maximum weight at take-off is 2.2 tons. This jet-engined drone has a maximum endurance of 5 hours and a flying range of 930 km.
Bayraktar Kizilelma is claimed to be able to fly up to an altitude of 12,000 meters. With the TF-6000 and AI-322F engines, this drone is able to fly at supersonic speeds, while when using the AI-25TLT engine, the speed is at high subsonic levels.
The Kizilelma is designed to be able to take off and land on the amphibious assault ship – Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) TCG Anadolu. If that becomes a reality, then Kizilelma will be a source of pride for Turkey, because it will be the first fixed-wing drone in the world to operate from the deck of an LHD-class ship.
The autonomously maneuverable Bayraktar Kizilelma will be able to operate in tandem with manned-unmanned Teaming (MUT) aircraft and this drone will certainly be able to carry air-to-air missiles.

“With the arrival of the 5th generation fighter jet, the world is witnessing the end of the heyday of manned fighter aircraft. No new manned fighter aircraft will be developed. Unmanned systems (drones) will increasingly become the strongest element on the battlefield in the future,” said Selçuk Bayraktar, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Baykar Makina.
