For the First Time, Russia Shows the Prototype of the Latest Generation of Cruise Missile X-69

Of the various types of air missiles displayed by the Tactical Missile Corporation (TMC) at the Army 2022 military exhibition, there is one type of missile that is truly new to the public. The figure of the latest missile is still wrapped in the code X-69, which indicates it is a prototype.

Even so, the X-69, which was designed by the Raduga State Machine Building Design Bureau, was created in time to become a deadly strategic destructive force for the Russian Air Force.

From the fact sheet, it is stated that the X-69 has the ability to destroy special targets on the surface, including targets that do not have radar, infrared traces and optical background contrast. Armed with folding wings, the missile whose profile is identical to Storm Shadow and Taurus can fly low following the contours of the earth's surface. Multiple targets can be programmed prior to launch, giving the option of switching or prioritizing the target when the missile is in action.

Technically, the X-69 can fly from an altitude of 200 meters to 11,000 meters. Even in flight altitude over ground surface mode, the X-69's flight height can only be 50 meters from the surface. While the distance is targeted to reach 290 km.

With a turbojet engine, the X-69 is capable of sprinting from 750 to 1,000 km per hour. For guidance and navigation systems, the X-69 adopts NACS based on INS navigation combined with a complex radio altimeter, speedmeter and electo optical system). The developer claims that the accuracy of this missile is in the range of 5-7 meters.

The type of warhead carried is penetrating (310 kg) or cluster (300 kg). The overall weight of the X-69 is said to reach 770 Kg. Overall, the X-69 has a length of 4.19 meters, a width of 0.4 meters, while when the wings have expanded, the wingspan reaches 2.45 meters.

Generally it takes about 3-4 years from the start of the prototype until finally the missile is fully produced for the needs of the Russian Air Force, but considering the geopolitical conditions and the conflict with Ukraine, it is not impossible that the X-69 will soon become the Kh-69.
