Army 2022: Russia Will Show Ranpur BMP-3 Unmanned Variant


The Army 2022 military exhibition will soon be held in Patriot Park, Kubinka, not far from Moscow, Russia on August 15-21, 2022. And ahead of the celebration, which is known as the International Military Technical Forum, there is news that Rostec will exhibit publicly for the first time. dynamic combat vehicle (ranpur) BMP-3 unmanned variant.

Quoted from RIA Novosti – ria.ru (8/8/2022), it is stated “The BMP-3 robot with a combat module will demonstrate its capabilities for the first time in a dynamic demonstration. The unmanned BMP-3 will be remotely controlled and equipped with a combat module called the “Titmouse”.


Flashback to August 2016, the unmanned BMP-3 variant had previously been introduced under the name Udar Unmanned Combat Ground Vehicle (UCGV). The UCGV Udar debut was first introduced at the Innovation Days 2015 Defense Exhibition held by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The Udar is designed with a modular dome, so it is not difficult to install various types of weapons, ranging from machine guns / RCWS (Remote Control Weapon System) cannons and anti-tank missiles, the settings have been prepared. VNII Signal plans to improve Udar with artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In the end, this ranpur robot can carry out operations independently, capable of analyzing the combat environment in automatic mode.

The BMP-3 robot is armed with a 30 mm 2A42 automatic cannon, a 7.26 x 52 mm Kalashnikov PKTM machine gun, and four 9M133M-2 Kornet-M anti-tank missile launchers. The weapon system on this turret carries the RCWS platform which is supplied by the Tula based Instrument Design Bureau.


Rostec is rumored to be showing more than 1,000 samples of weapons and military equipment in the Army 2022. Some of the ones presented are the Main Battle Tank (MBT) T-90MS, BMPT Terminator tank support fighting vehicle, self-propelled howitzer Msta-S 152-mm and many more. 

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said about 1,500 companies and organizations, including foreign ones, were planned to participate in the 2022 Army.
