The famous weapons manufacturer from the Jewish State, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, is reported to in the near future will introduce a new type of long-range air-to-surface missile called the Ice Breaker. Called a long-range missile because the Ice Breaker can reach targets at a distance of 300 km.
Ice Breaker is a variant of Sea Breaker, a missile made by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems which was introduced last year (2021). The Sea Breaker is an anti-ship cruise missile launched from a ship based launched and land based platform. While Ice Breaker is a variant of Sea Breaker launched from an air platform.
Quoted from the Jerusalem Post – jpost.com (12/7/2022), it is said that Rafael will officially show the Ice Breaker figure at the Farnborough Airshow 2022 aerospace exhibition (18-22 July) in England.
Spokesman Rafael said, “This is a long-range multi-service missile program. Ice Breaker can provide a solution to attack targets on land and sea.” Ice Breaker is characterized by being able to travel low trajectories and can operate independently or in man-in-the-loop mode.
Rafael said this fifth-generation missile can be launched from various aircraft and helicopters, such as Puma helicopters and Gripen fighter jets, FA-50, M-346 and F-16. The Gripen can carry six Ice Breaker missiles, and the F-16 can carry seven Ice Breaker units.
Ice Breaker is equipped with GPS-independent technology, for single or salvo attacks. This is a low observable configuration type with full compatibility. Rafael claims if the operator uses the Spice 1000 smart bomb, it can automatically use Ice Breaker. Speaking of weight, the Ice Breaker weighs around 350 kg and runs at high subsonic speeds.

Rafael claims Ice Breaker will operate by adopting artificial intelligence, deep-learning technology, and “big data based scene-matching that enables Automatic Target Acquisition (ATA) and Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) features.

The Ice Breaker is designed to be able to counter jamming attempts and hit a stationary or moving target. Rafael officials said the missile was close to full-scale development and Rafael had spoken to potential buyers on three continents about potential contracts.
