Russian Ministry of Defense: RTS Moskva Missile Cruiser Sinks During Withdrawal Process

After the dramatic incident on April 13, in which the missile cruiser RTS Moskva was so badly damaged that it had to be abandoned by its crew. So the latest news from the Russian news agency Tass, stated that the Russian Ministry of Defense officially declared that the flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet had sunk.

Launching from Tass.ru (15/4/2022), it is said that the Moskva RTS sank while in the process of being towed to the port. While in the process of towing, the 12,490-ton ship was hit by a storm, because there was damage to the hull due to a fire incident from the explosion of the munitions warehouse, making the ship lose stability.

"In stormy sea conditions, the ship is declared sunk," the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The Russian side said that the cause of the fire and explosion was still under investigation, nor was there any information about whether or not there were casualties from the incident.

The sinking of the RTS Moskva suddenly became a form of 'victory' for Ukraine, where when news circulated of the heavy damage to the cruiser, the Ukrainians immediately claimed that it was the result of an RK-360MC anti-ship missile attack that was released from the coast.

As a flagship, the RTS Moskva is the flagship and largest warship of the Black Sea Fleet. The ship was put into service in 1983 under the name “Slava.”
