Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal confirmed Sunday that Elon Musk will no longer be on Twitter's board. Agrawal said this decision was handpicked by Musk.
The Tesla boss was appointed to join Twitter's board after buying a major stake in the company, making it the largest shareholder.
According to Channel News Asia, Musk's appointment as part of Twitter's board was announced on April 9. However, it wasn't long before Musk stepped down from the company's exclusive board.
"Elon has decided not to join our board. Elon's appointment to the board became official on April 9. However, Elon said the same day that he would no longer be joining the board. I believe this is for the best," said Agrawal.
Elon Musk, who is now the richest person in the world, last week announced the purchase of 9.2% of Twitter shares, or 73.5 million shares.
The Twitter CEO also confirmed that Musk became the largest shareholder of the social media service. The company also guarantees that it will remain open to any input from Musk.
Musk is an active Twitter user with more than 80 million followers. His various tweets on the service always attract the attention of millions of Twitter users.
On Twitter, Musk often makes statements that have quite an impact on the business world. He is also quite diligent in writing controversial opinions on issues or other public figures with odd or business-focused comments.
Musk even briefly criticized Twitter's policies and opened a poll on whether the service adheres to free speech principles.
