MaxDefense Philippines received information from several sources confirming that aside from the acquisition of the Pohang-class corvette ex-ROKS Andong (PCC-771), the Philippine Navy is getting 1 or 2 more Pohang-class corvettes from the South Korean Ministry of National Defense.

The 1 or 2 Pohang-class corvettes would be Flight IV models, in which the Republic of Korean Navy still have 4 ships available for transfer.

If these plans materialize, the Philippine Navy will have 4 Pohang-class corvettes at best, which includes the ex-ROKS Chungju (now BRP Conrado Yap) and ex-ROKS Andong.

There is also a potential to acquire additional Pohang-class corvettes at a later date depending on availability that could be allocated for the Philippine Navy, or the capacity to accept additional ships.
