Kamaz 63501 PP-2005M Pontoon Bridge – The Mainstay Pontoon Truck Russian Combat Engineer Unit
The PP-2005M pontoon bridge was designed in 2005 by the Vympel design bureau (Nizhny Novgorod)
and manufactured by the Okskaya Shipyard plant

This pontoon bridge is not new in the Russian military arsenal, because the PP-2005M pontoon bridge was handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense in 2016, and a year later it was officially operated by the Russian Army combat engineer unit in the Vladimir Region (Russia). Middle).

Its debut is interesting, because the PP-2005M is also involved in Russia's special military operations in Ukraine, where this pontoon bridge plays an important role in connecting between sides of the river whose bridges have been destroyed or damaged in the fighting.

At Russia's largest defense exhibition, Army 2022 which took place at the Patriot Expo (15-21 August 2022), the PP-2005M pontoon bridge was also displayed.

From the specifications, the PP-2005M pontoon bridge cannot be separated from the carrier vehicle (launcher), namely the Kamaz 63501 8×8 truck. The ease of deployment is something that is attractively offered by this pontoon truck, where 40 – 42 units of this pontoon truck can create a 268 meter long bridge path with a width of 14 meters.

The PP-2005M pontoon bridge was designed in 2005 by the Vympel design bureau (Nizhny Novgorod) and manufactured by the Okskaya Shipyard plant. The aim of the PP-2005M project is to update the PP-XNUMX fleet (old type of pontoon truck) and improve all its main characteristics.

Each PP-2005M pontoon bridge unit weighs 8.35 tons. Due to design improvements, the load capacity was increased from 22.5 to 25 tons. This pontoon bridge is equipped with a propulsion engine for easy maneuvering on water, namely the MZ-330 motor link in the form of a self-propelled platform with reduced dimensions with its own power generation and propulsion.

The motor linkage can be connected to another pontoon, carrying up to 10 tonnes of cargo and creating traction on the mooring line up to 1800 kgf. Provides navigation at speeds of up to 12 knots with high maneuverability.

The pontoon bridges can be combined into ferries driven by the MZ-330 or BMK-MT/MO motor boats. Of these, eight ferries can be made with a carrying capacity of 90 tons, depending on the characteristics of the water barrier and cargo, ferries can be single, one and a half or double width.

Pontoon bridges can be assembled in different configurations and designs, depending on the desired crossing requirements. For example, a pontoon bridge with a length of 268 meters can withstand a load of up to 120 tons. For safety, this pontoon bridge can be used to make crossings with a water flow speed of 3 meters per second.
