H1-Panther – The Fastest Amphibious Vehicle Of The Humvee 4×4 Platform

Seeing the capabilities of this amphibious vehicle, the TNI Research and Development Agency may be interested in making a prototype. This is the H1-Panther, the amphibious vehicle of the original Humvee 4×4 rantis (tactical vehicle) chassis.

However, according to the capabilities offered, the H-1 Panter has gone through a series of modifications, which are none other than so that this vehicle can fly fast on water, even the H-1 Panther is currently lined up as the fastest amphibious vehicle in the world.

Quoted from autoevolution.com (5/8/2022), the H-1 Panther was designed and built by WaterCar of Southern California. WaterCar, founded by Dave March in 1999, holds 27 amphibious-related patents, as well as the Guinness World Record for the fastest amphibious vehicle.

And most recently, WaterCar released an upgraded variant called the H1-Panther, which was inspired by the Humvee. Although it looks the same as the Humvee, however, the H1-Panther is more powerful and much more flexible and safe to operate.

The H1-Panther is built around the chassis of the original Humvee that got an overhaul. The design team then replaced the heavy steel and cast iron components with new lightweight components made of aluminum or stainless steel. These include a rugged 6061 aluminum hull and a sealed foam filled flotation cell.

The goal of WaterCar is to create an amphibious vehicle that can perform on land and water. For that, they needed sufficient power so the H1 got a Chevrolet LS3 petrol engine and a Mercury Marine Bravo 2 Outdrive complete with stainless steel propellers for its heavy duty.

The H1-Panther engine can produce 395 hp and 375 lb-ft (508 Nm) of torque from the Chevy power plant alone. Performance wise, the H1-Panther can easily reach speeds of 112 km per hour on the highway and 35 knots (64 km per hour) on the water.

In addition, the jeep can easily tackle any terrain thanks to a capable four wheel drive system, large 35 inch (89 cm) mud tires and a special suspension system designed to offer ten inches (25.4 cm) of ground clearance.

According to WaterCar, the transition from jeep to amphibious boat and vice versa takes just 20 seconds. As for refueling, the vehicle is equipped with a 38 gallon (144 liter) fuel tank that allows a maximum range of 380 miles (611.5 km) on land and 96 miles (154.5 km) at sea. On the water, the H1-Panther behaves like an ordinary boat with a length of 6 meters and a weight of 2,268 kg.
