More and more Indonesian Navy warships are being fitted with the Naval AD 20mm M71/08 cannon made by Yugoimport.
After previously installing this Serbian production canon on the KRI Semarang 594 Landing Platform Dock (LPD), the KRI Fatahillah 361 corvette and the stealth KCR KRI Golok 688, a recent post on PT PAL Indonesia's Instagram account shows the installation process of two secondary gun units on the Fast Ship. The 6th 60M missile (KCR) KRI Panah 626.
In its statement, PT PAL Indonesia did not mention the type of canon installed. However, if you look at the appearance, it is strongly suspected that it is the Naval AD 20mm M71/08 canon from Yugoimport.
When launched before President Joko Widodo on April 20, 2022, KRI Panah 626 was equipped with a Bofors 57 MK3 mm cannon at the bow, while a 20 mm caliber Shipborne gun and an Exocet 40MM B3 anti-ship missile had not been installed. And this latest update shows the installation of a Shipborne gun with the Naval AD 20mm M71/08 type.
PT PAL Indonesia said that until now the development process of KRI Panah 626 Combat Management Systems (CMS) has reached 87 percent. For example, Sewaco (System, Weapon and Command) has not been fully installed, and will be installed in stages throughout 2022. About the Naval AD 20mm M71/08 cannon, intended as an element of air defense and limited attack on surface targets. The manufacturer said the M71/08 was staying up to face the target of aircraft/helicopters flying at low altitude and speed. However, there is something different from the Shipborne gun M71/08, although it takes the role of a gunner to operate it, but this canon can be integrated with the fire control system.
Carrying computer technology and an integrated optical system, this canon can be operated in the dark at night. Some of the features of the fire control system module include a CCD camera for daytime aiming (36x optical zoom), night thermal imager (2x/4x), laser rangefinder, collimator sight and a 20 mm boresight telescope. Armed with a fire control system module, every shot has been carried out with high calculation and accuracy. The shooting angle and target display and other shooting parameters are displayed on the monitor screen.

The M71/08 canon carries a 20 mm caliber M55 automatic gun, or similar to that installed on the M55 triple gun canon. In terms of ability, this canon can hit targets at a distance of 5,500 meters (horizontal) and 4,000 meters (vertical). In theory, in one minute can be dissipated 700 projectiles.
