Kuzgun Modular Joint Ammunition – New Weapon For Bayraktar TB2 Combat Drone

The combat drone (UCAV) made by Turkey has proven to be selling well in the export market. As if following in the footsteps of successful marketing, munitions manufacturers have not remained silent to strengthen the line of weaponry that can be carried by combat drones such as the Anka, Bayraktar TB2, Aksungur and Akinci.

In essence, Turkey's defense industry is capable of being integrated, where drone and munitions manufacturers go hand in hand.

Departing from the development of munitions for Turkish combat drones, one of the latest releases is the Kuzgun Modular Joint Ammunition, the result of the development of the Turkish Industries Research and Development Institute [IRDI] Tubitak Sage.

Kuzgun is actually a family of next-generation munitions that are designed to be modular, low-cost, multi-purpose, have high attack sensitivity, and low side damage in terms of warhead, range, and guidance method, all of which are aimed at meeting the needs of tactical guided munitions.

The Kuzgun can be fired from land platforms, surface ships, and air platforms. The Kuzgun can be used against military units, light armored vehicles, mobile targets, military camps, mobile surface targets, and bunkers.

Thanks to its modular structure, the Kuzgun will be equipped with warheads and custom guidance systems to carry out specific tasks, and will become a force multiplier for the Turkish Air Force as a cost-effective solution. Kuzgun's modular warhead options include particle, thermobaric, general purpose and penetrating warheads. The weight of the warhead is in the range of 25-60 kg.

The Kuzgun adopts a guidance system that combines INS and INS/GPS capabilities with infrared seeker, data link and mmW radar.

Overall, the Kuzgun weighs 100 kg and has a diameter of 1800 mm. The wings can be developed in a modular option, ranging from the common basic design for swing/fixed wing, thrust and non-thrust variants. With an ideal launch distance, the Kuzgun can hit targets at a range of 40 – 60 km with an accuracy of 1 – 10 meters (depending on the type of warhead and guidance system).

Besides being targeted as a combat drone arsenal, the Kuzgun is also prepared to be launched from fighter jets such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-4E Phantom.
