SpearUaV, a drone manufacturer from Israel recently introduced a type of drone that can be launched from below the surface of the water by a submarine. The drone in question is labeled the Ninox 103 Sub-to-Air loitering UAS system.
The Ninox 103 itself is designed as a quadcopter drone wrapped in a cylindrical capsule when released from a submarine – an underwater launched unmanned aerial vehicle (ULUAV), where the copter (propeller) only expands after the drone is released from the capsule above the water surface.
SpearUAV in its release (7/6/2022) claims that the Ninox 103 is the first drone launched from a submarine, and is capable of providing situational awareness directly outside the line of sight in realtime. With its small dimensions and quietness, the Ninox 103 is prepared to launch undetected and focused on operational needs.
Encased in a capsule module, the Ninox 103 can be launched from harsh maritime environments. The drone is designed with an open architecture that allows integration of third-party data links. The sensor module embedded in the Ninox 103 consists of sensors with visual, thermal and acoustic capabilities.
Colonel (Ret.) Gadi Kuperman, Founder & CEO of SpearUAV said that the Ninox 103 had been successful in testing, although it did not specify what submarine was used as a launch vehicle. The Ninox 103 can fly for 40 minutes, fly as far as 10 kilometers and carry a payload of 1 kg consisting of two sensors (electro-optical/infrared).

In addition to the Ninox 103, in fact there are other manufacturers who first released the concept of a drone launched from a submarine. Call it the Diodon HP30 which was worked on by a champion defense manufacturer from France, Naval Group with a drone startup based in Toulouse.
India is also not left behind, under the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) a drone program is being worked on that can be launched from submarines.
