Pentagon Denies Claims Russia Has Used Laser Weapons In Ukraine

The statement from Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov that the Russian military has used laser weapons in Ukraine, in particular the Zadira laser weapon system capable of striking targets at a distance of 5 km, seems to have received a response from the United States. The US Department of Defense on Friday denied circulating reports that Russia had its laser weapons systems in Ukraine.

Quoted from defense-blog.com (21/5/2022), Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said that there is no indication that Russia has used lasers in Ukraine, it is claimed by Moscow that they are a new generation of Peresvet and Zadira laser systems to attack aircraft. without crew.

Referring to the news posted on May 19, Yuri Borisov said that the latest laser weapon system was operational. What is meant is the Peresvet system, in the form of a laser weapon system placed on the surface (ground based).

“Today, the Peresvet system is operational and this system is already serially supplied to the troops and is capable of blinding all reconnaissance satellite systems of potential adversaries in orbit at an altitude of 1,500 km. Paresvet can paralyze satellites during flight by means of laser beams," said Borisov.

Borisov also revealed a type of laser weapon that can destroy at a distance of 5 km. The laser weapon system is called Zadira and is claimed to be able to destroy a drone in just 5 seconds.

Zadira is the development of the "Rat" complex which was released in 2020. Equipped with a mini radar antenna, the Rat can detect drones effectively with a surface reflection of 0.01 square meters, which the drone can detect when traveling at a speed of 200 km per hour at a distance of 3.5 km.

The mouse complex will interfere with the use of microwaves. Jamming can be done within a radius of 2.5 km.

Apart from jamming, the drone can pass fire from laser guns at a maximum distance of 1 km. All Rat devices, including optical electronic surveillance, are integrated into a unified system, from data sharing to unified displays.
