Roketsan, an arms manufacturer from Turkey, recently released the news that it has completed the test and development of the Karaok (Arrow) anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). With the completion of the Karaok test, it is scheduled that this missile will enter Turkey's military assets by the end of 2022.
Similar to the FGM-148 Javelin, the Karaok is a 125mm caliber portable anti-tank man missile which when launched will run a fire and forget mechanism. The Karaok is equipped with a tandem charge HEAT warhead and a new, locally developed hybrid two-stage rocket motor that allows missile launches from confined spaces.
The Karaok relies on an infrared guidance system, making this missile effective in day and night conditions. The missile and its launcher are said to weigh less than 16 kg and have a tube length of 1.1 meters. From the specifications, Karaok, with its direct attack and top attack modes, has an effective shooting range of up to 2,500 meters.
Top attack mode is used to destroy tanks and other armored vehicles. After the missile launches, the missile rises up and then down towards the target. This method is ideal for destroying tanks, as most of them only have a minimum level of armor protection at the top of the turret.
While in direct attack mode - the missile flies directly to the target. This mode is used for the destruction of buildings, bunkers, gun crews and concentration of opposing troops.
