Huge Explosions Happened in Southern Russia, Ukraine: Debts Must Be Paid

Russia reported a series of explosions in the country's south and fires in ammunition depots on Wednesday, the latest in a series of incidents that a top Ukrainian official described as retaliation and "karma" for Moscow's attacks. invasion.

Without directly acknowledging that Ukraine was responsible, presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak said it was only natural that Russian areas where fuel and weapons were stored learn about "demilitarization".

The use of the word refers to Moscow's stated goal of the nine-week war in Ukraine, which it calls a special military operation to disarm and "denazify" its neighbour.

"If you (Russia) decide to attack another country massively, kill everyone there massively, destroy peaceful people massively with tanks, and use the arsenal on your territory to allow assassinations, then quickly or later the debt must be repaid," Podolyak said as quoted by Reuters.

The explosion on Wednesday followed a massive fire this week at a Russian oil storage facility in the Bryansk region near the border.

Earlier this month, Russia accused Ukraine of attacking a fuel depot in Belgorod by helicopter, which Kyiv's top security official denies, and shelling several villages in the province.

The incident has exposed Russia's vulnerability in areas close to Ukraine that are important to its military logistics chain.

In the latest incident, Belgorod regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said the fire in the ammunition depot had been extinguished and no civilians were injured.

He later said that the Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle was intercepted in the skies over the Kursk region, adding that there were no casualties or damage.

In Voronezh, another administrative center of the southern province, the TASS news agency quoted an emergency ministry official as saying that two explosions had been heard and that authorities were investigating.

Regional governor Alexander Gusev said in the morning that air defense systems had detected and destroyed a small reconnaissance drone.

Russia said it had sent investigators to the Kursk and Voronezh regions to document what it called "illegal acts by the Ukrainian army".

Podolyak from Ukraine said it was impossible to "ignore" the Russian invasion. "And therefore, disarmament in the arsenal of the killers of Belgorod and Voronezh is a completely natural process. Karma is a cruel thing," he said.
