US Worries China Opens Up Giving Russia Military-Financial Assistance

The United States was alarmed and expressed suspicion that China was open to providing military and financial assistance to Russia.

CNN sources from US military officials said they had information on these indications. The information has also been passed on to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and US allies.

However, it is not yet clear whether such assistance will actually be provided by China to Russia.

During a meeting between US and Chinese representatives in Rome, Washington reminded Beijing of serious consequences if the Communist state helped Tusia.

China itself is said to be still wary of the consequences of economic sanctions if it helps Russia fully.

Moreover, there is still disagreement among the Chinese Communist Party regarding military and financial aid. One of the aids that China might still be able to fulfill is food logistics support for Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.

Sources from CNN said the threat of sanctions made China slightly resist their desire to fully support Russia.

US officials also separately told CNN that Chinese President Xi Jinping was shocked that the Russia-Ukraine war had revived the NATO alliance.

"There is a real concern by some that their (China's) involvement could damage the economic ties with the West on which China depends," said the anonymous official.

China's own food aid plan meets the emergency needs of Russian troops in Ukraine.

CNN reports that Russian troop units deployed in Ukraine exceed logistical stocks. Russian troops break into grocery stores in search of food during the invasion.

Food aid to Russia is considered the safest for China to avoid sanctions from the US and Western countries.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan meets senior Chinese diplomat Yang Jiechi in Rome, Monday (14/3) local time. The meeting was called to discuss substantial issues regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"We have deep concerns about China's alignment with Russia," a senior US official said of the meeting.

However, State Department spokesman Ned Price on different occasions underlined that China could actually exert influence on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war with Ukraine.
