Uber Returns to Operational License in London

Uber Technologies Inc has been licensed to operate in London for 30 months. This permit also ends years of problems with local regulators regarding transportation safety.

"Uber has been granted a private London rental vehicle operator license for a period of two and a half years," a Transport for London (TfL) spokesperson said.

In 2019, Uber lost its license to carry passengers in London for the second time. A year later, the online transport company was granted a license to operate in the British capital for 18 months following a legal battle to recover its operating license.

The US company first lost its license in 2017. Uber previously claimed to have eased security concerns by improving its insurance document verification system and rolling out real-time identification.

In addition, Uber also reached an agreement with drivers' union, GMB in the UK last year. This allows it to represent up to 70,000 drivers.

TfL is now finding Uber as a suitable and appropriate transportation service. Now this online-based vehicle service has a license after fulfilling the requirements from the authorities.

Uber UK said it remains focused on offering drivers the benefits and protections they deserve and also on becoming an electric vehicle platform by 2025.
