Polish Deputy PM Urges NATO to Send Peace Troops to Ukraine

Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Jarosław Kaczynski, urged NATO to send peacekeepers to Ukraine, which is currently still under attack by Russia.

"I believe a NATO peacekeeping mission or another international treaty mission is needed that can defend themselves and operate in Ukraine," Kaczynski said, as reported by CNN.

"I want to knock on the conscience of European leaders, on the principles they adhere to, because Ukraine needs help."

Meanwhile, NATO defense ministers met in Brussels on Wednesday (16/3). The Ukrainian crisis became one of the main topics in this meeting.

The British Defense Secretary, Ben Wallace, emphasized that there are several things that must be considered if the bloc is to send peacekeepers to Ukraine.

Kaczynski himself made this statement when Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa left for Kyiv.

In the Ukrainian capital, the three leaders met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

During the meeting, Morawiecki urged the European Union to immediately grant membership to Ukraine.

"We are here to honor your resistance to that evil aggressor. This invasion must stop. Whoever [Russian President, Vladimir] Putin killed, they will never be forgotten," he said.

Morawiecki also stressed that Poland would help Ukraine organize their defence.

"We will not leave you alone. We will be with you. Because we know you are fighting not only for your home, your freedom, your defense, but also for us."

Fiala also said that their visit was made to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion.

"The main purpose of our visit and the main message of our mission is to convey to our Ukrainian friends that they are not alone, Europe stands with you," he said.

Zelensky also thanked the three EU leaders, saying, "many (foreign) representatives left Ukraine because of Russia's large-scale invasion."

"Most importantly, we really trust these leaders."
