Yemen's Houthi group fired missiles and drones at Saudi Arabia's energy facilities, causing a temporary drop in production at the refinery but no casualties.
Drone strikes hit a petroleum product distribution terminal in the Jizan region, the Yasref natural gas facility and refinery in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said in a statement Sunday.
"The attack on the Yasref facility has led to a temporary reduction in refinery production, which will be compensated for from reserves," Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Energy said, as quoted by Reuters.
The Yasref facility refers to the Yanbu Aramco Sinopec Refining Company, a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and China Petrochemical Corporation (Sinopec).
Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser told Reuters by telephone that the company's revenue and supplies to customers were not affected by the attack.
The Saudi-led military coalition that has been fighting the Houthis in Yemen for seven years said Saturday night and Sunday morning attacks also targeted a water desalination plant at Al-Shaqeeq, a power plant in Dhahran al Janub, and gas facilities at Khamis Mushait.
Later on Sunday, another Saudi Aramco distribution facility in the city of Jeddah was attacked, causing a fire in one of the tanks, according to the Saudi-led military coalition. Fire can be controlled and does not cause casualties.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said his group had fired ballistic and winged missiles and drones at Saudi Aramco facilities in the city of Riyadh, Yanbu and "other areas", followed by attacks on "vital targets" in other parts of Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi-led military coalition said initial investigations showed the Houthis used Iranian-made cruise missiles to attack a desalination plant and distribution center belonging to Saudi Aramco.
Only, Saudi Arabia's air defense system managed to intercept nine ballistic missiles and drones.
