Under the contract in January 2021, it was agreed $2.8 billion (2.3 billion euros) for the acquisition of 18 Rafales to strengthen the Greek Air Force.
According to the contract, Greece will receive 18 Rafale fighter jets, 12 of which are used (10 single seats and 2 tandem seats), and 6 Rafale units in new condition.
The first six Rafales will be delivered to Greece in 2021, while the new six will be delivered in the spring of 2022. The last six used Rafales are expected to be delivered to Greece in early 2023.
Apart from the existing 18 Rafale contract, Greece has also signed an additional 400 million euros contract which will be used to purchase Meteor beyond-visual-range air-to-air missiles (BVRAAM) and to upgrade existing missiles. in the Greek Air Force inventory, such as Mica missiles, Scalp cruise missiles and Exocet anti-ship missiles.
"With the condition of a large number of orders, we have to increase production capacity to meet contract deadlines in the coming years," said Dassault Aviation Chief Executive Officer, Eric Trappier.
While deliveries of the planes to the UAE will not begin before 2026. While he did not say when, he said deliveries to Egypt and Indonesia would be "in the short term", leading to Dassault's "peak production". Unofficial sources say that Indonesia will receive the first batch of Rafale starting in 2026.
