US President Joe Biden believes that Russia is still considering the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine. Russia's accusations that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons are justified.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly accused the US of possessing biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine. Russia even claims to have evidence that the US and Ukraine had attempted to destroy the material once Russia started the invasion.
According to Biden, the accusations are baseless and will only justify Russia's decision if it later uses such a weapon.
"They (Russia) mention that Ukraine has biological and chemical weapons in Ukraine. That's a clear sign he is considering using both," Biden said, as quoted by Reuters.
The Russian Defense Ministry has accused Ukraine, without providing evidence, of planning a chemical attack against its own people. After that, Ukraine is said to be accusing Russia of being responsible for the attack.
Suspicions have continued to be thrown by both sides without showing clear evidence since the Russian invasion began on February 24.
The Russian invasion, or what Putin calls a special military operation to disarm Ukraine, has now started to subside and stopped at some point. Russian troops still failed to capture the major city although they managed to cause massive destruction in residential areas.
The city of Mariupol is one of Russia's main targets for capture. As of Monday (21/3), Ukraine still refuses to hand over the city of Mariupol to Russia even though the city is in danger of facing a severe humanitarian catastrophe.
Mariupol has experienced some of the heaviest bombardment since Russia's invasion of Ukraine began on February 24. Citing Reuters, more than 300,000 residents are now trapped in the city in conditions of lack of food, water and electricity.
It is estimated that 90% of the city's buildings have been damaged or destroyed. Authorities say at least 2,500 people have died. The actual number could be higher.
