Russia in Turmoil, Champions League Final Moved to Paris


Decided to move the location of the Champions League final match on May 28 from St Petersburg to the Stade de France, Paris. The location change was made following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The UEFA executive committee previously held an emergency meeting on Friday (25/2) following the escalation of the security situation in Europe.


"The UEFA Executive Committee has decided to move the 2021/22 UEFA Champions League final from Saint Petersburg to the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. 

Matches will be played as scheduled on Saturday 28 May at 21:00 local time," UEFA wrote in a statement.

UEFA also extends its thanks and appreciation to the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron for his personal support and commitment to moving the most prestigious match of European club football to France.

"Together with the French government, UEFA will fully support multi-stakeholder efforts to ensure the provision of rescue for football players and their families in Ukraine who are facing the terrible suffering, destruction and displacement of people," UEFA said.
