Crypto markets fell on Thursday (24/2) after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced special military operations in Ukraine. The price of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies plunged.

Then, the price of XRP fell 11.59% to US$ 0.634 compared to the level 24 hours earlier, Cardano dipped 15.5% to US$ 0.7714, and Avalanche fell 12.86% to US$ 66.21.

While the price of meme-based cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin and Shiba Inu fell 14.71% to US$ 0.1122 and 12.94% to US$ 0.00002177 respectively in the last 24 hours.

Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, who spent the first six years of his life in Kolomna, Russia, was deeply disappointed by Putin's decision to abandon a peaceful solution to the dispute with Ukraine and go to war instead.

“This is a crime against the people of Ukraine and Russia. I want to pray for everyone's safety, even though I know that there will be no security. Glory to Ukraine. Reminder: Ethereum is neutral, but I am not,” he said, as quoted by Cointelegraph.

Atlas DEX advisor Altcoin Sherpa said the focus should be on the people involved in the Russia-Ukraine war, and not its effect on the market.

"Thoughts are with everyone in Ukraine right now. We sometimes forget that there are real people living in these situations and it's not all about the market," he said, as reported by Cointelegraph.
