Chipmaker Nvidia Corp expects current quarterly earnings to be above
analysts' forecasts, counting on strong demand for data centers.
Citing Reuters (17/2), Nvidia expects first-quarter revenue of around US$
8.1 billion, compared with analyst estimates of US$ 7.29 billion.
Meanwhile, data center revenue grew significantly by 71 percent to a record
US$ 3.26 billion in the fourth quarter.
Chief Executive Jensen Huang also told analysts via that business would
still be constrained by supply but he expected it to improve.
With technology companies venturing into the "metaverse" and surging demand
for data centers, revenue soars for Nvidia, and for other chipmakers.
Meanwhile, Nvidia reported fourth-quarter revenue of $7.64 billion, compared
to forecasts of $7.42 billion.
Its net profit rose to about $3 billion in the fourth quarter from $2.46
billion a year earlier.
Huang also said that Nvidia is still moving forward in using the Arm
architecture in its products. Nvidia aims to make CPUs based on Arm, the
traditional brain of computers, to complement the graphics processors it's
known for.
"We are excited that Arm is now evolving into robotics and autonomous
vehicles as well as cloud computing and supercomputing.
In all these different applications, we intend to bring the full spectrum of
Nvidia's accelerated computing platform to Nvidia Arm CPUs," said Huang.
