Israel and Syria reportedly engaged each other with missiles on Tuesday
night or Wednesday (9/2/2022) early in the morning.
An anti-aircraft missile strike from Damascus set off rocket sirens near
Umm al-Fahm, northern Israel, wailing.
In several Damascus neighborhoods, ambulances were heard shortly after the
airstrikes which state media said were carried out by the Israeli
military.
The Israeli airstrike, if officially confirmed, would be the second such
attack in Syria since the start of this year.
The airstrikes came more than a week after Israeli airstrikes targeted
sites near Damascus, causing some material damage.
According to the Syrian opposition-affiliated Halab Today television
station, the attack targeted a site belonging to the regime of President
Bashar al-Assad's government near Al-Qutayfah, northeast of Damascus,
causing injuries and material damage.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), quoted by the Jerusalem Post, said it was
checking whether an attack had taken place in the Jewish-majority country.
According to another report from an independent flight tracking website, a
series of cargo flights used to transport Iranian weapons have traveled
between Iran and Syria in recent weeks.
Last week, an Iranian cargo ship named Parnia docked in the port of
Latakia in northwestern Syria. The port was the target of two Israeli
airstrikes in December.
