Iran showcased its latest domestically-made “Kheibar-Shekan” missile which
has a range of 1,450 kilometers. This news was revealed by state media on
Wednesday (9/2/2022).
The projectile was launched in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the
Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri and other military
officials.
A local media outlet reported, “The weapon will join Iran's long-range
projectile arsenal; although its capabilities are more in line with the low
to medium range missiles of the Western armed forces.”
The missile was developed and built by scientists from the Air Force of the
Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Iran has continued to push ahead with making a variety of self-developed
military hardware in recent years, amid US sanctions.
According to state media, the missile uses solid fuel and weighs a third
lighter than other similar projectiles.
Preparation and shooting time have been reduced by one-sixth. This was
revealed during a visit by top military officials to the Revolutionary
Guards' missile base.
Iran has been increasingly interested in demonstrating its defensive
capabilities over the past year.
They hold a lot of war games, military exercises, and launch their latest
hardware.
Currently Iran is under threat from Israel which wants to attack its nuclear
facilities. Tehran has held a national-scale military exercise in
anticipation of an Israeli attack.
