The United States Embassy in Minsk issued a call urging Americans to leave Belarus immediately.
"Do not travel to Belarus because of arbitrary law enforcement, the risk of detention, and the unusual and concerning Russian military buildup along Belarusian border with Ukraine, COVID-19, and related entry restrictions," the US Embassy statement said on its website.
"US citizens in Belarus must depart immediately by commercial or private means," the US embassy said.
Earlier, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan briefed US lawmakers on the Ukraine situation and Washington's offer to give Kiev a $1 billion state loan guarantee to assuage fears of war in the country.
The United States has accused Russia of plotting to attack Ukraine this week, but Moscow has rejected the accusations.
The Kremlin said Russia had no intention of attacking any country while pointing to NATO's military activity near its borders.

However, accusations by Western politicians and media continue that Moscow is trying to attack Ukraine.
