Russia has already given an answer whether to go to war with the United
States ( and NATO. This answer was delivered on Friday (28/1/2022) after
Moscow's demands for security guarantees were ignored by NATO and tensions
over Ukraine escalated.
Speaking to reporters, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was asked whether war
would break out after talks over guarantees that NATO would not expand into
Eastern Europe ended in a stalemate.
"If it were up to the Russian Federation, there would be no war,"
replied Lavrov. "We don't want war," he said. "But Russia will not allow our
interests to be brutally attacked or neglected either."
According to Lavrov, the US response to Moscow's proposed demands was almost
a "model of diplomatic courtesy".
However, he said that NATO's response to the two Russian draft documents was
highly ideological. "He breathes the exclusivity of the alliance, its
special mission, its special purpose," he explained.
Lavrov went on to add that if the US is unwilling to reconsider its stance
on security issues, then Moscow is not ready to make any compromises on its
demands either.
"If they insist that they will not change their position, neither will we
change ours," he said, as quoted by Russia Today.
The comments came shortly after Moscow received a long-awaited response to
its request for security guarantees, including a promise that Ukraine would
not be admitted to the NATO bloc.
On Thursday, Lavrov said that there had been no positive response to
Moscow's core concerns in the documents provided by the American side after
weeks of talks with their counterparts.
"The main problem is our clear position on the inadmissibility of further
NATO expansion into Eastern Europe and the deployment of highly destructive
weapons that could threaten the territory of the Russian Federation," Lavrov
explained.
The Kremlin also criticized the response, arguing that requests from Moscow
officials had not been fully taken into account by Washington and the US-led
military bloc.
