China and Indonesia actually have no problem or are on good terms if Beijing
does not claim the North Natuna area. Because Beijing considers that part of
the North Natuna area is Chinese territory, Indonesia cannot ignore it.
Moreover, China's Nine Dash Line claim does not only target North Natuna
waters.
Several areas that are in the territory of neighboring countries are also
affected by unilateral claims from China. Although on January 18, 2022,
China confirmed through its Foreign Minister Wang Yi, that Beijing would not
impose the Nine Dash Line claim on other countries.
Even Wang Yi said that his party would not deploy military force to disrupt
Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.
"Stressing only the claims of one side and imposing one's own will on the
other is not the right way for neighbors to treat one another, and it goes
against the oriental philosophy of how people should get along with one
another."
However, China has often interfered with Southeast Asian countries,
including Indonesia.
As previously reported by Zonajakarta.com, if China had time to send its
destroyer ship in the form of the Kunming ship, which approached North
Natuna.
Although 'hanging out' in international waters, its location which is very
close to the North Natuna territory is certainly very dangerous. In
addition, Reuters also reported that China sent a letter to Indonesia
regarding oil and gas exploration in North Natuna.
Based on the Nine Dash Line, China considers that the location of oil and
gas exploration carried out by Indonesia is within Beijing's territory.
Of course, Indonesia firmly rejects this, considering that North Natuna is
legally part of Indonesia. In addition to disturbing Indonesia, China has
also taken over Malaysia's territory several times.
Defense Security Asia said that China had sent its ships near Malaysian
waters. Likewise with Malaysia's airspace, China is said to have sent its
J-20 Mighty Dragon to fly to Malaysian territory.
China's various claims that interfere with this Southeast Asian country have
been rejected not only from the region's countries. It turns out that
various European countries such as Britain, France and Germany are also not
happy with China's unilateral claims.
Therefore, in international courts, Britain, France and Germany also
supported Indonesia and others in thwarting China's Nine Dash Lines claim.
The support provided by Britain, France and Germany was in the form of
sending notes to the United Nations.
These records are used to corroborate reports from Malaysia, Australia,
Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and the United States (US).
As previously reported by Radio Free Asia (RFA), it was said that over the
past year, the governments of these European countries had issued diplomatic
warnings. It has also filed complaints against, and rejection of, China's
unilateral claims over the Nine Dash Line.
“France, Germany and the United Kingdom underscore the importance of the
unimpeded exercise of the freedom of the high seas, in particular freedom of
navigation and overflight, and the right of innocent passage enshrined in
the (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea), including in the
South China Sea," he explained.
